Moniri - Okuden Tachiwaza #8

Moniri (門入 - Gate entry), ancient name Kakuresuke (Ambushed), is the 8th move of the OKuden Tachiwaza set of Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu.



In Moniri, one is attacking and fighting sveral opponents guarding the gate of a castle.









Bunkai are practical applications of a technique.
In the video below, 2 Japanese masters demonstrate slightly different bunkai for Moniri

Sodesurigaeshi - Okuden Tachiwaza #7

Sodesurigaeshi is the 7th technique of the Okuden Tachiwaza set of MJER.

SODESURIGAESHI (Brushing sleeves) ancient name KEN NO KOTO (Brushing sword) is the 6th move of the Okuden Tachiwaza set of advanced techniques taught in Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu and Muso Shinden Ryu Iaijutsu.

This video is one of a set of compilations of clips from films shot during the 20th century of several Japanese masters demonstrating their Art. 

 

The masters featured in these compilations are:

  • Iwata Norikazu (1913 – 2011) MJER

BUNKAI for Sodesurigaeshi

 

 

A BUNKAI is a practical application of a technique (waza), the essence of it. As you can see in this video, there may be several Bunkai for each technique.

Practicing a waza without understanding its Bunkai is more Dance than Martial Art. There is nothing wrong about dance, but you have to decide what you want to do.

Okuden tachiwaza Bunkai : YUKIZURE

Beginning today, I will be posting Okuden Tachiwaza Bunkai.



Yukizure is the 1st move of the Okuden Tachiwaza set of advanced techniques taught in Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu and Muso Shinden Ryu Iaijutsu.







BUNKAI is the practical application of a technique (waza), the essence of it. There may be several Bunkai for each technique. Practicing a waza without understanding its Bunkai is more Dance than Martial Art.



There is nothing wrong about dance, but you have to decide what you want to do.

Torabashiri is usually performed from a Tatehiza position.

2 variations of the same move 



Muso Shinden and Muso jikiden Eishin Ryu practice this move slightly differently. But the spirit is till the same The opponent tries to grab your sword from behind, possibly to prevent you to draw it against an other opponent coming from the front.

Urokogaeshi is the 7th move of the CHUDEN TATEHIZA (Eishin Ryu) set taught in Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu and Muso Shinden Ryu.

Bukai are practical applications of a technique practiced without an actual opponent. They are its essence. Without their knowledge, the technique becomes empty.

Iwanami is performed slightly differently in Muso Jikiden EIshin Ryu, but I did not find a Bunkai for it by a 20th century Japanese master.

Iaijutsu : Nukiuchi BUNKAI

Last video in the Series of Bunkai (Practical Applications) for Shoden Seiza waza (Omori Ryu) set of Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu demonstrated by 20th century Japanese Masters.

Nukiuchi - 抜打 Sudden draw - is also the first technique in Yoshukai Iai.



The Yoshukai version is practiced with the sword sitting on the ground instead of being worn in the obi.
