Iaijutsu Eishin Ryu Batto-ho : SHATTO

SHATTO is the 4th move of the Eishin Ryu Batto-ho. This set of 12 techniques was introduced in 1939 by Kono Hyakuren, 20th Soke of the main line of Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu, at the request of the Dai Nihon Butou Kai, to instruct officers of the Japanese Navy in the proper method of sword drawing and handling.

The Batto-ho techniques are inspired by the older Koryu kata of MJER.

This video is one of a set of compilations of clips from films shot during the 20th century of several Japanese masters demonstrating their Art.

The masters featured in these compilations are:
Kono Hyakuren (1898 – 1974)
Yoshyoka Soryu (1915 – 2018)
Masayuki Shimabukuro (1948 – 2012)
Yamaguchi Katsuo (1938 – 2006)
